What: Busan Fireworks Festival

When: 23-24 October 2015
Where: Gwangalli Beach, Gwangan Bridge- Busan

The annual festival’s cultural events, high-tech laser light shows and unique and colourful fireworks make this one of the area’s most popular festivals, drawing crowds of over 1 million visitors each year. Though most people flock to the beach for a closer view of the festivities, nearby Hwangnyeongsan Mountain also offers a great view of the fireworks. Entry is free.

Where: Coffee shops in Gangneung, Gangwon-do

Now it its 7th year the coffee festival celebrates the emerging coffee culture of Gangneung-si, which in recent years has welcomed in famous coffee chains and artisan coffee shops. The festival celebrates the scenic city’s past and present culture with a variety of coffee-related events such as exhibitions, photo exhibitions, coffee making and coffee bean-roasting experience programs. What: Hwacheon Sancheoneo (Mountain Trout) Ice Festival

When: January 2016 (Exact dates TBA)
Where: Hwacheon Stream & 5 villages in Hwacheon-gun, Gangwon
The festival takes place in a virtually untouched region known as the first area in Korea that freezesover each winter. Visitors to the festival can try out ice fishing; those feeling brave can try to catch the mountain trout with their bare hands, in the freezing water. Teaming with the fishery are activities and performances such as the exhibition of ice sculptures that last year took up to 20 weeks to prepare including slides to play on, bobsledding and snow man building.

The Jeongwol Daeboreum Field-Burning Festival, also known as the Jeju Fire Festival, has secured its position as one of the major festivals representing Jeju. According to the tradition, from late winter until early spring, the local villagers would start a fire on the fields. This was called bangae, one of the oldest stock farming skills. What: Hanseong Baekje Cultural Festival

When: 9-11 October 2015 Where: Seoul Olympic park The festival is a leading traditional cultural festival of Seoul, highlighting the 493 years of history and culture of Hanseong Baekje. Hanseong Baekje refers to the era between 18 BCE and 275 CE of Baekje - one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea, together with Goguryeo and Silla-- before it moved its capital to Ungjin (now Gongju) in 475. The festival features folk performances, musical, family concert, food festival, and photo contests.
